Wildlife abounds in this magical forest retreat, a tranquil base made to recharge your batteries!
How do you imagine yourself staying in a cosy wooden lodge? With a gorgeous interior featuring wooden beams and a wood-burning stove, a private hot tub bubbling away just outside your door, all in your very own secluded area in the middle of a forest, this truly is a magical retreat.
We found the most tranquil, wildlife friendly holiday home! As soon as we arrived, we knew this was going to be something a little different, a complete hideaway from everyday hustle and bustle and instead of passing people, we were passing squirrels. That’s when we knew we were in our element; a complete wildlife haven.
Once the bags were unpacked, we couldn’t help ourselves but jump straight into the hot tub. The squirrels were not far behind, ever curious to see what was going on.. As we sat there indulging in the warm waters, the silence literally took our breath away, with only bird song to listen to.
Once the sun had gone down, star gazing from the hot tub with a glass of wine was next on our list. The stars were so bright and glistening, a breath taking sight! As the night drew-in we could hear sticks cracking from the woods… to our surprise a badger appeared just next to us – it was huge! We tried to stay quiet and still but it soon heard us and scurried away. All in the space of a few hours we had already seen so much in this woodland retreat. It really had lived up to its expectations of offering a haven of peace and tranquillity, far more than either of us had ever expected.
If you are not lucky enough to see the badgers there is a 24 hour ‘badger cam’ which is just a brilliant experience to see these wild animals in their own habitat, and is conveniently at a click of a finger on your TV screen in the lodge.
There are plenty of short and long walks from the lodge, and once you have checked in at reception you will be given a map with a few of the highlighted trails. They are all worth exploring and offer varied scenery and an abundance of flora and fauna.
We took a walk through the lodge park, up to the nearby golf club into the countryside. The path was bedded with daisies, which went on as far as the eye could see. Butterflies abound in this area too and there were huge Queen Bees gathering up their pollen.
These lodges and their surroundings really do offer something for all ages, whether you are an older couple who just want to amble around and sight-see the wildlife, a family with children who can experience the great outdoors or a couple wanting a romantic hideaway – they really do tick all the boxes.
We will definitely be returning in the near future.
